Gustave Flaubert, Bouvard and Pecuchet

i'm less than halfway done with this and love it crazy but have no real concern to finish it soon, or ever. it could just keep on like that forever. a bouvard and pecuchet serial would be AWESOME.

i feel i have already pasted in the quote about setting the dog on fire.
You mean the part where the kid boils the cat? Or did I totally forget a crucial dog-on-fire moment?
oh they don't actually do it. it's something like, oh, with all this potassium, and x, and a dog, we could ________ fire. but where would we get the dog? etc.

- there, that ought to make it completely not funny.
Today I came across this quote from Jean-Luc Godard, on Frank Tashlin's Artists and Models: "No film could be more devastating, more bitter in its humor, more brackish, with the richness of the invention constantly aggravated by the poverty of the situations. . . . It is, in other words, an acme of stupidity, but an acme in the same way as Bouvard et Pécuchet." Now whenever I think about the book I'll be forced to picture Martin and Lewis.
